Is Power Engineering a Trade?
Power engineering is not a trade.
There is no apprenticeship but you must work in order to gain experience (firing time) in order to advance to the next certification level. However, you do not have to advance if you don't want to; some fourth-class power engineers are happy staying fourth-class power engineers.
However, as power engineers climb the certification ladder, they will find themselves in leadership-roles. First and second class power engineers are typically in management positions.
The confusion over whether or not power engineering is a trade comes with the work power engineers perform. This includes:
- Pipefitting
- Milwrighting
- Welding
- Electrical Work
- Gas Fitting
